Paris Hilton, the Waltons, the Wrigleys and the Gallos will still lobby for lower estate taxes. Corporations will still lobby to curtail product lawsuits and trial lawyers will still lobby to keep product lawsuits and malpractice lawsuits. Pealtors and builders will still lobby to end wetlands protection. Oir companies will still lobby for off shore drilling rights and coal burners will still lobby for dirty air. Walt Disney will still lobby to keep its copyrights renewing forever. None of this involves government spending, but when this lobbying takes the form of campaign contributions, it's the elections that get polluted and even become privately owned, so to speak.

Perhaps if government did not dole out so much money, people would not spend a lot of money influencing elections.
